The proposed Virgin Australia-Qatar Airways alliance will threaten the dominance of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program. Jarden analysis notes the addition of long-haul services (through Qatar) to Virgin’s limited domestic and short-haul network will improve Virgin's Velocity Frequent Flyer program and close the gap with Qantas. Qantas Frequent Flyer earned 3.3 times more for each member than Virgin Australia Velocity in the year to June 30. The ACCC is reviewing the Virgin-Qatar tie up with a final decision out in March 2025.
