The Reserve Bank of Australia is rethinking its plan to ban credit-card surcharges and lower interchange fees, including whether commercial cards and rewards earning cards should carry higher caps. It’s also weighing new regulation for Apple, Amex and BNPL providers ahead of a consultation this year. The initial proposal would reduce the surcharge cap on in-person payments from 0.8% to 0.3%. A final decision and implementation timeline will be released by March.
