The RBA lowers interchange to 30 bps for credit cardsThe Reserve Bank of Australia will lower interchange caps from 0.8% to 0.3% for consumer credit cards and 0.2% to 0.16% for debit cards. The changes apply to Visa and Mastercard cards but not American Express. The formal Conclusions Paper was released on 31 March and surcharging on both debit and credit cards should end on 1 October 2026. The RBA also flagged a further review starting mid-2026 covering American Express, BNPL and mobile wallets.
